Job Description:As a Phlebotomist Collects blood specimens for use by clinicians and/or Medical Technologists for clinical analyses, evaluations, and/or diagnostic purposes. Draws blood specimens from patients by using finger stick, heel stick and/or venipuncture. Collects throat culture specimens. Greets patients and instructs them in proper specimen collection methods. Labels specimens for identification purposes and enters specimen data into computer. Prepares specimens for reference laboratory by using centrifuge to spin blood. Maintains alphabetical filing system for patient information. Answers telephone calls and routes calls to appropriate member of the medical or laboratory staff. Writes test results sent from reference laboratory into patient report distributes report to clinicians. Inventories and requisitions medical laboratory supplies stocks work area as needed. Keeps work areas clean and orderly washes laboratory glassware as needed. Knowledge of various techniques in collecting specimens. Skill in determining most appropriate site to obtain specimens. Skill in filing patient information and log books, Skill in both verbal and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. As a Lab Technician To make SOPs and STPs keeping in mind quality assurance and its aspects of documentation. Should interact with our patients, doctors, associates, alliances, hospital etc politely and effectively. To ensure the turnaround time for any kind of Laboratory related troubleshooting is minimum. Should update her training files from time to time. Performs tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support pathology investigations. To ensure that the Laboratory carries out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses. Prepares reagents, specimens and samples wherever necessary. To ensure the machine(s) under his /her supervision is calibrated, maintained etc as per quality standards. To ensure that her department is well-stocked and resourced. Maintaining log and sometimes interpreting results to present to the reporting doctor. (E.g. critical values). Using computers and performing mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs viz. LJ charts, Westguards rules. Ensures the data of the machine is interfaced to the lis.(manual entry has to done in cases of software troubleshooting.etc). Coordinates with supervisor that the final prints of the reports are generated and submitted for approval. To be up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability. Demonstrate practical procedures to educate the subordinates. Conduct searches on identified topics relevant to the laboratory. Ensure neat and clean hygiene, bio medical waste management, strict safety procedures and safety checks.
