The Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations (AIM-HI) of National Chung Cheng University was established with the funds under the ATU Plan (Aim for Top University Plan) of the MOE. Prof. Yeau-Ren Jeng (鄭友仁) is in charge of AIM-HI, and concurrently serves as Vice President of National Chung Cheng University and head of the Office of Research and Development of the University. AIM-HI currently integrates eight research centers at the University, with a research focus on advanced machine tools, System-on-Chip (SoC) and integrating manufacturing and commerce. There are tens of professors participating in AIM-HI projects related to the research and development of key technologies. To strengthen part of the technical capability, the Institute has also invited many distinguished scholars from universities both at home and abroad into the research lineup. In addition, a consultation committee composed of overseas scholars, business representatives and representatives of research institutes was also set up to put forth suggestions for the development of this research area. 

          AIM-HI, as the name suggests, always ventures into challenging R&D projects including green manufacturing systems, real-time multi-core intelligent control, intelligent wireless sensing systems, and intelligent industrial applications and management, all of which are key technologies of advanced manufacturing systems and are mostly patented among such developed nations as those in Europe and the US. As a response, AIM-HI has been intending to empower Taiwan’s tool machine industry to make its own way without relying on the products of Europe and the US, or, specifically speaking, controllers. AIM-HI, through its solid foundation in technologies related to precision machines, will provide the industry with assistance to develop Taiwan’s own key technologies and mechanical components of advanced machine tools (such as controllers, green machines, and intelligent technologies). AIM-HI will also cooperate with business partners and other fellow research institutes to put the high-tech innovations into practical use, in order to help domestic industry in technological improvement and overall industrial upgrading. Also, it expects to become a true advanced institute so that domestic businesses can work in tandem with related technologies and international platforms, which will then play a key role in achieving the goal of solidifying basic industrial technologies.
